"One of the first CQC6s ever made...
It has every conceivable characteristic of the model, including the extremely rare hand checkered handle scales. And the even rarer titanium backstrap. And the really rare deep penetrator tip grind. And so on.
This is the knife configuration that set the world on fire. There are less than a dozen ever known to have been made, and many of those originals have gone on to Valhalla by now. All the CQC6s are great knives, of course, but these few are truly the crème de la crème.
The CQC-6 first showed up during the Gulf War (1990-91 for you young'uns). At that time, Emerson customs had a halfmoon logo on them. The changeover to stylized SpecWar logo took place in 1994.
First timemarker: If it has a halfmoon logo, its 1991-94. If its a SpecWar logo, its '94-?
Second timemarker: The very first few 6s had bb'd titanium backspacers, so if it has one of those, its 1991.
The pre-factory days, aka "Garage" days, had a few other distinctions. For example, the blade edges, front and back, were usually hit on the leather buffing wheel, giving them a false temper line. The bevel on these knives was not yet a "zero" grind, but rather a single bevel. And for the most part, the grind profile was very 'prognathic', or sharklike.
From the earliest knives to around 1995, the bolsters had scalloping on the top and bottom edges. For a short while, roughly 1994-96, this step was eliminated. Then, about when the factory was established and creation of knives resumed full time, the scalloping re-appeared."
