"Jon this knife virtually without equal. It is one of the premium Emerson pre-tacs in existence. It is an apparent variation on a Stealth, and represents what Ernie himself considered the peak of his knifemaking ability.
I had a long discussion with him in 1995 about this design, and he said, among other things, that he would/could never make something like it again! He stressed that the amount of time and effort he put into it, to fit the contours and angles of the bolsters and polished black micarta handles was unbelievable.
The little things that hallmark his pre-tac knives, such as the handcarved thumb stud and pivots, the attention to detail on the lockbar, and the perfect anodize are all present on this piece. In addition, there are design elements, like the way the handle echoes the blade shape (in his classic A pattern) that you don't see any more in his work. On top of all that, it retains Ernie's focus on self-defense with its palm swell and penetration point.
Its either a forerunner or 'A' companion to the Stealth, probably the actual knife he showed to get orders for his Stealth knife project. It is defintely one of the last fully pre-tactical knives he ever made (my guess is 1990), and it has the Halfmoon logo to seal the deal!
What a great knife to find, in what appears to be mint condition, a good twenty years after he brought it to life. Probably just two or so like it (he rarely made a onesy, even with the amount of work that this took), and who knows where the other one is. Its gotta be Stealth price, and if a guy had a Stealth, this is a must companion piece for that lucky SOB!"
