"Hi Jon--
I wanted to create a special dagger—elegant, like a dangerous piece of jewelry. I wanted intricate pierced parts, so I worked with files to achieve the sharp points. I mixed several finishes, such as polished chrome, satin finish, stippling, and textured parts. I wanted the handle's centerpiece to appear to float, so I secured it with only three pins.
Usually, I don't make drawings before creating a knife. In this case, I started only with a small idea and developed new ideas as the build progressed. I added Mother of Pearl on the handle, held by stainless steel pins with small 14-karat gold caps on top. I even made a gold cap to cover the screw that holds the floating center. I also used gold to draw one's eye to the handle's complexity. Then opted for a fine, very pale signature like the dagger.
Lastly, I wanted a unique presentation case to keep the dagger that would enhance its beauty but still make it easy to pick up and enjoy. After discussing it with an incredible leather goods maker (hope_and_prepare_leather_good,), Jonathan created the magnificent oval 2-piece case covered in Stingray and Leather that "closes" via eight (soft) Rare Earth Magnets.
